应学校科技处、机电工程学院、甘肃省轨道交通力学应用工程实验室邀请,伯明翰大学土木工程学院教授,英国EPSRC学院的正式成员,第九届钝体空气动力学应用研究国际会议主席(2020年,伯明翰),伯明翰铁路研究和教育中心数值仿真学术带头人Hassan Hemida教授,将于2018年12月17日莅临澳门皇冠最新网址进行学术交流及讲学,届时将在学校教育科技中心大报告厅举行三场报告会,欢迎广大师生踊跃参加。

Hassan Hemida教授长期从事基础计算流体动力学(CFD)和有限元分析(FEA)技术、应用空气动力学、风工程和风能等方面的研究。此外,他还开展了CFD和FEA在单/多相流,风机等方面的研究。

【学术简历及报告摘要】

Professor Hassan Hemida is the Deputy Head of Research in the School of Engineering. He is a full member of the UK EPSRC College and the Chair of the 9th International Colloquium on Bluff Body Aerodynamics and Applications, Birmingham, 2020. He is the leader of the numerical modelling in the Birmingham Centre for Rail Research and Education. Hemida’s research interest ranges from fundamental computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) techniques to applied aerodynamics, wind engineering and wind energy. Although focussed much of his work on the aerodynamics of ground vehicles (trains, trucks and buses) and wind loads on structures, he also carried out research in the use of CFD and FEA in different engineering applications including single and multiphase flow, aerodynamics of wind turbines, railway switches and crossings and flow in urban environments. He leads different research projects funded by the EU commission, the UK research council and industry. Currently he leads large research group consists of 6 post doctors and 12 PhD students working in train aerodynamics, wind energy and railway modelling.

Lecture 1: “Recent advances in train aerodynamics”

Abstract: Traditionally, the field of train aerodynamics was limited to the study of train resistance in open air and in tunnels. Recently with the introduction of high-speed trains, this field became more and more important and of a direct concern to both train operators and manufacturers and new areas of research have been emerging. These include safety of trains in strong crosswinds, slipstream, noise and vibration, pressure pulses in tunnels and many other issues. In this presentation, the recent activities in train aerodynamics at the University of Birmingham, UK will be presented including, slipstream of high-speed trains, stability of trains in crosswinds, ballast flight, freight train aerodynamics, trains in tunnels and windbreak walls.

Lecture 2: “Computational fluid dynamics for train aerodynamics”

Abstract: Due to its own complexity and expenses, the measurements of aerodynamic phenomena on a full-scale train at the operating speed is extremely difficult and thus most of the researches of the aerodynamics of high-speed trains rely on small-scale physical modelling and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques. Each of these has its own issues. The use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to study train aerodynamics is an ever changing field due to continual increase in computational power. As new approaches become more viable, research must be conducted upon their validity. In this talk, the use of CFD for the aerodynamics of high-speed trains will be presented, with special emphasis on the different CFD techniques and their validity for train aerodynamics and how they compare with model and full scale experiments.

Lecture 3: “Academic writing”

Abstract: If you are in higher education or conducting scientific research then you need to write you finding in the form of a scientific report or paper. Sometime it is difficult to write your finding in a way that makes it easy to be understood for the reader. In this lecture, the different sections of a scientific and academic paper will be presented and explained. What makes an academic writing good and what makes it bad will be also presented.
